Director of Maintenance and Environmental Services

We have an exciting opportunity for a Director of Maintenance and Housekeeping at our Castle Peak facility located in Eagle, CO.  This person will be in charge of the building maintenance and housekeeping oversight for the Skilled Nursing and Assisted Living facility. Eagle is located in the recreational ski area between Vail and Glenwood Springs, Colorado.  This new campus has 44 skilled nursing beds and 20 assisted living units and will be located in a community that has previously not had these services available to them.  

Director of Maintenance and Housekeeping Position Summary:

  • Responsible for the cleaning, maintenance and repair of the interior, exterior, and surrounding grounds of Castle Peak in accordance with federal, state and local standards, regulations, codes and company policies. Directs the community maintenance, transportation, housekeeping and laundry staff to include hiring, training, coaching, performance evaluation, disciplinary actions and termination. Directs the maintenance and upkeep of the buildings, resident units, commons areas, and grounds through maintenance staff. Inspects completed work for conformance to standards and policies. 
  • This position requires interaction with associates, residents, and vendors. Candidates will be required to utilize sound judgement and experience to solve moderately complex problems in adherence with Castle Peak's Employee Handbook. 

Job Duties: 

  • Maintains an awareness of regulations pertaining to long term care and assisted living facilities.
  • Ensures completion of OSHA right-to-know and AWAIR training by staff.
  • Ensures facilitation of recycling and waste control programs. Accepts 24-hour-a-day, 7-day-a-week responsibility for maintenance, laundry and housekeeping.
  • Coordinates compliance with local, state, and federal building and health codes, MSDS, OSHA, EPA, DCPHE regulations and fire codes.
  • Coordinates engineering contractors and vendors, ensuring applicable liicenses and insurance is current.
  • Conducts regular inspections of life safety systems, including fire extinguishers and sprinkler systems.
  • Oversees necessary repairs and maintenance in apartments and common areas including refurbishment and upgrades for move-ins. 
  • Works with billing department to coordinate ancillary resident charges associated with housekeeping and maintenance requests.
  • Supervises the housekeeping and laundry staff including assigning tasks and managing work.
  • Interviews, hires, and trains all staff.
  • Ensures that staff are oriented and trained in all aspects of their positions.
  • Adheres to Augustana policies on safety, resident rights and infection control.
  • Ensures that all departmental tasks are carried out in accordance with local, state and federal regulations.
  • Ensures an immediate response to reports of unsafe conditions, and monitors the correction of the conditions.
  • Ensures departmental records are maintained according to regulations.
  • Performs daily inspection to ensure all aspects of laundry are operating according to schedule.
  • Displays an attitude of courtesy and respect for all residents, families and staff.
  • Must be aware of and adhere to all HIPAA regulations.
  • Displays understanding of and respect for confidentiality of information.

Job Qualifications:

  • Associate's Degree or equivalent from a two year college or technical school
  • Minium of 3-5 years related management experience and training. 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Ability to read, write, speak and comprehend English
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Valid Colorado Driver’s License
  • Familiarity with tools and machinery
  • Familiar with health department regulations preferred
  • Must be eligible to work in the Federal Health Program
